So, university started again on September 17th, it’s been a bit more than a month, and I honestly don’t understand how we went from a really chill first year to an already overwhelming second one. I just don’t know.
For those who don’t know, I finished my first year as an English Major last May, I finished 3rd of my year — it’s to show how much I really thought the previous year was chill — and I didn’t really know what to expect from this new year. I thought it’d be in the continuation of the previous one. How sweet of me.
I was talking about it with my friends a few weeks ago, and we feel like we don’t have any more time to do anything. I think it’s also because my schedule sucks and I have huge breaks between my classes so I have to stay on campus longer than I have to go to class. So, keep in mind that I don’t live near my university, I live like an hour and a half away, so around 3 hours of my day is already taken by my commute. Let’s stay I start at 9 am — which is usually the case — I have to take a train at 7:30 am, and then I finish at 7 pm — it’s my usual Monday — and I’m back at home around 9 pm, it’s just …. how am I supposed to do everything I have to do?
I love most of my classes, but damn you have to meet my British Lit teacher, the guy is amazing but also truly thinks we can read everything he talks about. I’ve just had my midterm — like two days ago — and we had questions on books he talked about for maybe 5 minutes? And it was an in depth question. So now, I have to add all the books on the brochure he gave us, even though he said we only had to pick 4 for our finals, and then we’re also doing my British Lit Analysis class with him, and we already have to read 4 books for it, so dude…. calm down. Please. I can’t keep up.
But although I’m complaining, I signed up for this, I’m an English major, it’s my job to read the required books. What I didn’t sign up for was a Cinema class on Saturday morning. We were all surprised to know it was a compulsory class when we started the semester, and… it’s not that I don’t like the class in itself, it’s really interesting, it’s just that I didn’t sign up to watch 7 movies 3 hours long each. I also didn’t sign up to watch 3 movies with Johnny Depp, but that’s another topic. So yeah, I’m glad this class is like only until our midterms — but it’ll be the same for the second semester, yeah.
Like I said, this second year is way harder than I had expected it to be, but I’m slowly starting to get used to it. I think my body is finally understanding that we’ll run on little sleep and lots of coffee for the next few months — coffee is always a good idea.
That’s it for today, I’ll see you soon, have a nice day guys 🌻
