the coffee book tag ☕️🍂

AfterlightImage

I’m writing this while listening to the beautiful playlist that is mono. by BTS’s leader, RM. This is honestly the best combination of songs for the Autumn, absolutely perfect. But anyway, I’m not here to tell you about what I’m listening, but to do a tag — as you might have guessed from the title! My friend Audrey did the tag a few days ago and was lovely enough to tag me — merci chaton! Let’s dive right into it:)

a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans

I think for me it was the Grisha trilogy, by Leigh Bardugo. I tried to read the first book a few years ago and simply couldn’t get into it, but I tried again at the beginning of the month and fell in love with it. I think the fans of this trilogy are so hardcore because this world is so developed and we can see even more of it in Leigh’s other work.

a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year

For me it’s definitely all my favourite cozy books, but not cozy as in happy books, it’s more the feeling the said books give me. So to me it’d be The Secret History, by Donna Tartt, Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, Six of Crows, by Leigh Bardugo, and The Foxhole Court, by Nora Sakavic. But of course I wouldn’t say no to some holidays romance which I absolutely adore reading during the month of December.

a favorite children’s book

If we’re talking about a book I read during my own childhood, then it’s definitely Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, by J.K. Rowling, because it’s just the book that shaped the rest of my childhood and adulthood. But, if we’re talking middlegrade in general, then we have The Tea Dragon Society, by Katie O’Neill, Furthermore, by Tahereh Mafi, and City of Ghosts, by Victoria Schwab.

a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish

The first book I read in 2018 was Radio Silence, by Alice Oseman, and I remember starting on the very first day of the year and finishing it the same day, simply because I couldn’t not read it in a day, same thing for her last novel, I Was Born For This. More recently, it happened with The Loneliest Girl in the Universe, by Lauren James, and it’s not a coincidence that these three books are some of my favourite ones.

a book you see everywhere

The first that comes to mind is Sadie, by Courtney Summers. It’s absolutely everywhere right now, on Youtube, on Instagram, on Twitter, on Goodreads, everywhere. And I want to read it so badly! Especially since I learnt that the audiobook is absolutely amazing, it really makes me want to pick it up!

a book by an indie author (a shoutout)

It’s time for me to recommend some incredible queer books, they’re all on kindle at some really cheap price, so you cannot not pick them up: Caroline’s Heart, by Austin Chant, Soft on Soft, by Em Ali, soft in the middle & sunfish, by Shelby Eileen, Long Macchiatos and Monsters, by Alison Evans, Lambs Can Always Become Lions, by Charlotte Anne Hamilton, When the Letter Comes, by Sara Fox, Double Exposure, by Chelsea M. Cameron, Knit One, Girl Two, by Shira Glassman, The Melody of You and Me, by M. Hollis, and Stag’s Run, by Zaya Feli.

a book you were expecting more from

I guess for me it was a book I’ve recently read, The Dollmaker of Krakow, by R.M. Romero. I had expected this book to be everything I needed, a book about Jewish children in Krakow during the WWII, and in a way it was about that, but it didn’t make me feel all that emotional. Me not crying was weird but I pretty much cry every single time I read a book that has to do with WWII.

a book or series that was both bitter and sweet, but ultimately satisfying

Right now I’m thinking about The Infernal Devices trilogy, by Cassandra Clare. It was a mixture of happy, sad, amazing, wtf moments. I’m still not over this end, I can’t believe Cassie decided to go this way, but in a way I don’t know how I would have wanted this trilogy to end, so I’ve made my peace with Cassie’s choice.

a book or series that is quietly beautiful

I don’t think much people would think of this book for this answer, because I feel like not enough people have read it, but for me it’s The Library of Fates, by Aditi Khorana. It’s one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read, and I just wish more people would pick it up and see what they’ve been missing on all this time. I’m emotional every time I think about it, and I don’t know what’s stopping me from rereading it right now.

a book or series that makes you dream of far off places

I’d definitely say the Ember Quartet, by Sabaa Tahir. It’s impossible to read these books and not to think of all the places they’re visiting. Although I would never want to live there, I wish I could experience with them the beautifulness of some of the places they’ve been to. It would be amazing.

favourite classic

Unless you know me pretty well, you mustn’t know that my favourite classic is not Pride and Prejudice. Nope. It’s not, shocker. My favourite classic is The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas. I think there’s not a more beautiful book to grace this earth. I’m absolutely in love with it and have been for many years. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated with this story, first it was all the different movies and tv series I saw with my grandpa, and then it was the book itself. I just love it.
